Fear the Walking Dead

I was super excited to see Hulu have the whole first season of Fear the Walking Dead. Here’s my affiliate link if you want to sign up for Hulu. It is well worth the $7.99 a month, since we don’t have cable or a DVR anymore.  We also got Sling TV, but it was already after this season was over.

I am writing this after watching just the pilot. I can say I will for sure continue with the rest of the season, and will probably be done in a couple days!I had cringed when hearing there would be a The Walking Dead spin-off. One, I didn’t want any of the characters I liked leaving the show. Two, spin-offs seem like mediocre attempts to keep a show going that should stop. I was pleased to hear that this was more of a prequel. That was perfect. We only see after all the shit has hit the fan when Rick wakes up in the hospital.

One of my favorite parts of all horror movies and TV is the “What/How”. How did this happen? What caused it? All we know from The Walking Dead is that whatever caused this everyone has it. No matter how you did you will come back.

Fear the Walking Dead is set in Los Angeles and focused on Madison Clark, her boyfriend, Travis, and her kids Nick and Alicia. Madison is a school counselor, and Travis a high school teacher. They are trying to blend their families, and also deal with Nick’s drug addiction. By the end of the first episode they experience what is going on. Where it goes from there…I don’t know.

Thoughts:  I liked it! I’m surprisingly becoming invested in these characters fairly early. I found scenes to be anxiety producing, like in that creepy drug church. I had doubts especially after a friend of mine didn’t like it at all. The difference may be that I have not read any of the graphic novels. I have nothing to compare and contrast to, and for that I am glad.

Season 2 premiers April 10, 2016 on AMC.
